What is the Liquid Network?
If you've started exploring DePix, you've probably come across the term "Liquid Network." It's worth understanding at a basic level, because it explains a lot about how DePix behaves.
A sidechain built on Bitcoin
The Liquid Network is what's known as a sidechain β a separate blockchain network that's linked to Bitcoin but optimized for different things. Where Bitcoin's main network prioritizes maximum decentralization and security for its own coin, Liquid is built for faster settlement and the ability to issue other assets, like stablecoins, on top of it.
Why that matters for DePix
DePix is issued as an asset on the Liquid Network rather than as its own standalone blockchain. That gives it a few practical benefits: transactions tend to confirm faster than on Bitcoin's main network, and the network was specifically designed with asset issuance β tokens like stablecoins β in mind, rather than needing that functionality bolted on afterward.
Confidential by design
One detail worth knowing: Liquid Network transactions use a feature called Confidential Transactions by default. The fact that a transaction happened, and between which addresses, is recorded on the public ledger β but the amount involved is typically blinded from casual public view. That's a deliberate privacy feature of the network itself, not something unique to DePix.
What this means for you
In practice, you don't need to understand sidechain architecture to use a Liquid Network wallet β the technical details happen behind the scenes. What matters is that it's a real, functioning Bitcoin-linked network built specifically to support assets like DePix moving quickly and securely between self-custody wallets.
